What’s a “csa” or “farmshare”?

Often used interchangeably, a Farmshare or CSA stands for “Community-Supported Agriculture”. It’s a partnership between a farm and it’s community. CSA members pay a subscription fee, or purchase a “share” of the farm, at the beginning of the growing season, which enables the farm to buy seeds, supplies, pay for labor, etc. In return, the farm harvests the best of the seasonal vegetables each week for pick-up at the farm or Revival Butchery

what’s in the bag?

Each week, you’ll get 5-7 seasonal vegetables (bags, bunches, pints, heads, etc). These veggies are all harvested at the peak of their season and height of their freshness. Depending on how frequently you cook, and what your vegetable intake is, the Farmshare is generally a good fit for 1-3 people.

What do I get?

  • A weekly bag of fresh “beyond-organic” vegetables for pick-up at the farm or Revival Butchery

  • A weekly newsletter with photos from the farm, recipes, and cooking tips for all the produce

  • Invitations to member events at the farm

  • 10% off any Horseshoe Farm purchase of vegetables or handmade furniture/art at The Farmstand or Travelers Rest Farmers Market

  • The opportunity to directly support a young farmer. CSA stands for “Community-Supported Agriculture”. It’s a great way to support a local farm, since it provides funds to farmers at the beginning of the season and guarantees a home for the produce.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of vegetables will I receive?

- Each week, you’ll get the freshest vegetables in season. We try to balance unique and interesting options that aren’t commonly found, with “fan favorites” everyone is familiar with.

- We grow around fifty types of vegetables and hope to provide variety week-to-week.

What if I don’t know how to cook a certain vegetable?

- You’ll receive a newsletter with a list of what’s in the bag, along with recipes, meal ideas, and cooking inspiration to help you in the kitchen each week.

Are your vegetables organic?

- ‘Beyond Organic’ actually.. We DON’T SPRAY ANYTHING (even organic sprays) except water on our crops. We plant habitat for beneficials and pollinators, use compost and try to disturb the soil as little as possible, we use NO GMO’S, and we don’t use any synthetic chemical fertilizers.

I’m worried the CSA isn’t right for me…

- There’s a chance it isn’t. Our CSA is a good fit for those who like to eat healthy and make cooking with fresh, beyond-organic vegetables a regular part of their life. If you’re not a big veggie eater, only like a few types of veggies, but still want to support local farms, then come see us at the Travelers Rest Farmers Market
